M&G Insight Event 13th February 2018

M&G are hosting an Insights afternoon on 13th February 2018 to give you more information about Apprenticeships in the Investment Management industry. This is an event that’s open to students, and parents. You’ll have the opportunity to meet current M&G Apprentices and managers in the business to find out more about the opportunities they have available. To register click on the link below. University of Cambridge – History of Arts Taster Days

If you are interested in studying History of Art, the University of Cambridge are holding their History of Art Taster Days on 2nd, 16th and 23rd of February 2018. These are free events open to any student studying at least one essay-based subject at Higher Level. Travel bursaries are available.

You’ll attend lectures by current Cambridge academics, tour a college and learn about careers that Art History can lead to.

The US-UK Fulbright Commission’s College Day is an ideal way to learn more about studying an undergraduate degree in the US, and to meet with admissions officers from top US schools. This event is being held on 29 and 30th September at the ILEC Conference Centre, 47 Lillie Road, London, SW6 1UD.

Opportunities with The Brokerage

The Brokerage are a charity that help Londoners from state schools access experiences of work, employability skills and jobs through their partnerships with employers. Their aim is to work with young people to raise aspirations, create access and provide opportunities within financial and professional services to achieve diversity in the workplace. The majority of their work is helping students who are looking for alternatives to University.

They currently have a number of opportunities for Year 12 and 13 students. Details below:

  • The Brokerage Fast Track Programme
    A new programme aimed at London-based Year 12 and 13 students that are looking at alternatives to university in financial and professional services.
  • The Worshipful Company of International Bankers Essay Competition
    The tenth year of the WCIB’s popular essay competition, with cash prizes available for schools and students.

Workshop programmes

The following workshop programmes will be running this academic year. All the workshops involve a visit to a business in central London.

Property and the built environment related workshops

As property related businesses are such a large part of London’s economy, this term The Brokerage will be running pilot workshops looking at careers in the built environment. There are a limited number and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

  • Working in Property
    A variation on our Working in the City workshop, but focusing on careers in property. This workshop is for year 12 and 13 students and is hosted by Cushman and Wakefield. This workshop will be held on 18 October 2017. Click here for dates and more information.

For Key stage 4 and Sixth Form students

  • Working in the City
    This is a two part programme introducing year 10-13 students to City careers. Students learn about the City, the business and careers found there, and how to communicate with employers. Click here for dates and more information.
  • Maths in the City
    This workshop is aimed at maths students in years 10-13 in which they meet people who use maths in their everyday jobs and learn how the maths curriculum connects to the world of work. Click here for dates and more information.

What Career Live? and What University Live? – 6th and 7th October 2017

What Career Live? and What University Live? is an annual event to help young people decide what to do beyond school, whether it’s an apprenticeship, further training or heading to university.
At the show, students can meet with top employers as well as leading universities, to help them assess all of their options in one place. There’s also plenty of interactive features including a mock assessment centre, careers advice lounge, STEM Challenge, CV clinic and free presentations.
Employers recruiting for their apprenticeship programmes at the event include J.P. Morgan, Microsoft, EY, Unilever, KPMG, PwC, Network Rail, Rolls Royce, NHS and many more. Universities at the event include the universities of Nottingham, Southampton, Warwick, University of Law, DeMontfort, Surrey, Roehampton and more.
